Patching extra functionality into <gamemd.exe>
Great news! Big Grin

(Oh, and happy birthday to Rock Patch, too Smile )

Worth playing: 1 | 2 | 3
yay, i might be able to get back to modding R:ROTC/R:BOTH without worrying about the errors in the liquid nitrogen radiation.

i hope you add some more 4th side support though(like EVA). I'm pretty sure you said something about allowing upto 10 sides.

don't want to push you though.
LOL, I think he knows we all have our own personal preferences for what features make an appearence in the next iteration of the patch and I'm sure he takes some of the suggestions on board at least to give him ideas for what features might be made most use of. Things like Ice terrain logic and fixing the third campaign buttons looping behaviour for example Wink
:bleh:

well well.
today's the release day of C&C The First Decade and I ordered my copies (both German and English) already... spending $80

the interesting part will not only be to have all the C&Cs in two languages but also checking what's up with YR's exe...

On that note, if its not wildly different in terms of function (and I don't think anyone is expecting it to be except to make it work with the new disc), but the recompile has messed up address locations, surely it would be easier to implement additional disc checks in the existing patch than trying to patch the new exe and just replace new users exe with our one?

Edit:
One thing I would like to mention in relation to the patch is a problem I've run into when merging the RA2 campaigns into the YR ones and that is that the list of movies that you can replay that you get after completing each mission is hard coded, so only the original movies named the original names will show on that list and only after completing the original named maps (I think its based on save game files or something). Naturally I'd love to be able to define the list as I see fit and possibly have some movies show for beating some yuri missions in the distant future.
i agree with blade on that, for those of us who do make new missions with new movies, we'd want to be able to specify our own.

as for the patching. assuming that TFD YR is 1.001, maybe slightly modified for DVD, then I'm sure it's possible to get your patch to be able to patch both versions.

just ask TTDP's Patchman, he has a patch that patches TTDX in both the Windows95 and DOS versions, i think they might be different EXEs, but he doesn't manually copy the changes from 1 version to the other, he has some software that creates both patches. if it becomes a problem, ask him how he does it. he's mentioned it before, but me following OTTD(the OS re-write) rather than TTDP(the original version patched), i've only read a very brief example when he's invaded OTTDs forums, mainly topics when we say "Impossable to be done in the patch", mainly saying how he can do it, but hasn't put the effort required into doing something so small in comparison to the many other features he could do with that same effort.
would be something like an IPX/SPX to TCP/IP patch, and adding the ability for another 8 players, so, upto 16 players in multipler. just a comparison.(because it would require a total re-write of MANY hardcoded features.)
One thing known for sure is that Renegade is changed in TFD. The exe is different than the normal retail one.

changed how?

and you can guarantee that the original CnC and RA are changed, CnC was originally DOS with a win95 re-compile, and RA was both DOS and Win95. now there is a winXP version.
EA should provide patches against CNC95 and RA1 to make them XP compatible for those who bought the original games.
what about CnC DOS? thats the orginainal, the W95 version was in a multipack(CnC95+RA1 plus all expansion packs, and a TS demo.(CnC was win95 repack only, RA1 and all expansion disks, even the 1 for CnC were both DOS and W95)), much like the first decade, only instead of W95 re-builds, its a WXP re-build. i see the game coming on 5 to 7 DVDs. 1 DVD containing CnC, another for RA1, another for TS, another for RA2, another for renegade, and another for generals. i doubt it, but they might have decided to package CnC with RA1, and depending on size, maybe Generals and ZH are on 2 different disks, however i see all 6 games coming on 6 DVDs, where each disk contains both sides CDs, plus any expansion disks(maybe with an exception for renegade).

anyone know exactly how it actually is packaged, let me know.
It's one DVD. The windows xp "fix" for TD still doesnt enable netplay. All I know about the Renegade change is that the CRC32 of the file is different than the patched retail version.

I don't care about TD at all.
RA1 maybe (I had my hacking plans for it as well Wink ), but I see that there are fixes on the way.

Anyways, I'm interested in TFD YR.
Anyone got the gamemd.exe?

My copy will arrive in a week and I don't wanna wait Shift eyes

its not released till the 17th march... after my birthday...

EDIT: www.amazon.com(america) has it now (which i'd expect) however there seems to be a conflict as to when its release in UK... www.amazon.co.uk says 17th feb, but the local games shop called game, www.game.co.uk says 17th march....
it's aleady released in the US, german release date is feb 16

however, yet again, anyone got the gamemd.exe of TFD's YR?

Thanks a lot to Saberhawk :!: Smile

The TFD exe has just changed about 20 bytes.
They actually hacked the CD check out and changed another command.

So, 1.08 will be TFD.

I'd guess I'm back on track now
