I saw Bobingabouts wishlist for The ZPatch/Swizzle Patch and I thought about my 'wishes' for this patch. My ideas where more general than Bobingabout and deal with general problems than small ini features like [NewGlobalPrerequisites] or something similar.

This thread is meant as resource for VK if he searches ideas it is not a request to him

The most important thing - I think- is a new multiplayer protocol that works with TCP/IP instead of IPX. On all LAN parties we made I guess 70% of all tries to play RA2 or YR failed because of that IPX protocol.

YR should have the ability to use custom menu skins or to edit the menu completely, maybe like winamp skins or steam resource files. This would be very useful for modders and would solve the problems which occurred with third campaign button or the deactivated single player campaign button.

YR also needs an new server browser. The Internet menus are chaotic, some buttons are useless and you aren't able to see what mods are played

Maybe a commandline option to start mods would be useful. Example:

Code:

RA2md.exe -game mentalomega

Again steam as reference.

I think it could be usefull to add a plugin system like AdminMod/AMXMod/AMXModX to YR. With these plugins multiplayer games will be much more amazing like it is in Counter-Strike

So that's enough. I guess this changes would make YR a more popular game again, only a 3D engine is missing for a perfect multiplayer game.

What do you think is missing to make this game 'perfect' (better: as perfect as possible)?

I guess VK wants to kill me for this but I also think this is important to the RockPatch community and for the upcoming SwizzlePatch.

Few days ago I searched someone who downloaded RP 1.10 before VK removed it, because I wanted to test it. I tried it in the german community "cncforen.de". I posted:

Quote:Hat noch jemand den RockPatch 1.10 zufällig?

(Does someone have RP1.10?)

Answer from an Admin:

Quote:Um welches Game geht's?

(About which game are you talking?) I didn't really understand that question 'till I found out, that I posted in the wrong topic (my major mistake in forums) I also didn't believe that a admin didn't know that Rock Patch is for YR.

But there were more post of that kind:

Quote:Nein, von dem hab ich noch nichts gehört.
Allerdings von einem 1.002 patch für Yuri.

(I didn't heard of this thing, but there exists a 1.002 patch for YR)
I didn't believe what I was reading.

After that another guy telled me that the newest version is 1.08 and 1.10 newer existed. It took him actually 3 posts to check that 1.10 wasn't anymore on the official homepage:
As you can see the most popular german community doesn't even know the word "RockPatch" and it won't know the name "SwizzlePatch" (or whatever else). I think that's a real pity because these developments are the most important for the whole C&C series.

Hello, sorry for asking as a guest but I don't want to join a forum, anyways I have a ligit version of Yuri's Revenge (with RA2 of course) and pretty much every time I use any version of RP except 1.08 SE I end up with the fallowing error's and my game will not load.

"Gamemd.exe has generated errors and will be closed by windows. You will need to restart the program."

I have a freash install and the game has been updated to required patchs, however the CE patchs and versions no matter what just will not load with the mods that need them, and using 1.08 SE is in a manner for me a waste as few modders use it as current, or it often crashes with IE's on newer modifications such as Mental Omega, or the Third War to name a few.

Can anyone help me with this matter please?

Today I will start to do RP 1.10.
Here official development thread of RP 1.10.
I will post messages about current development status here and screenshots.
Several important messages will be duplicate in news thread.
Also, if I will have any questions, I will ask community opinion here.

But this don't mean that no new revisions (for RPCE, RPCE74) will released.
If someone will find a bug or error, if it's easy to fix that, I will make new revision.
This because I want to make RPCE the most stable of RP.

It can be pretty funny, but I want to release RP 1.08 SE #0035 with new installer, because several mods still needs it (like MO 2.0a©).
If you remember you must install first revision of RP 1.08 SE and then update it up to #0035.
Also new installer will be compatible with Launch Base®.

I can't give you any kind of warranty that RP 1.10 will stable.
It's a hard hacking, awful reality.
After a lot of new code, you can find that your code is totally bullshit or this don't work at all or is working strangely/incorrectly.
Yes, I have a revisions. So I can simple replace my current EXE file by old revision.

Rock Patch 1.10 - preview.
RP 1.10 won't have any changes in existing SWs.
Will be added a new SW types:
==========================
1) Upgrade - allow you to upgrade units on the battlefield.
New tags (SuperWeaponType):
UpgradeType=[number or constants]
UpgradeRadius=[cells]
UpgradeValue=[float]
==========================
2) HunterSeeker - as in TS.
Special unit which released  near the SW building, and seek target automatically.
New tags (General section):
GDIHunterSeeker=
NodHunterSeeker=
ThirdHunterSeeker=
Specify one per side hunter-seeker.
==========================
3) EMPPulse - same as FireSW, but will  support a range limit.
New tags (SuperWeaponType):
NoAction=[action name]
specify, what cursor will be used, if action don't in cannon range.
===================================================
As you can see, there will be no new cloned super weapons.

===================================================
Different lasers width will be supported.
Via new LaserWidth=[int] tag, which only valid if IsCustomLaser tag is set.
Laser width won't have any visual improvement, so if you set it to big number, you will have totally black color on edges.
Customized sonic beams will be added.
==========================
I will add a mod debug stuffs:
For example, if you run game with -MODDBG key, you can:
*reveal all map by key
*see current AI status by key
*and probably another things
New fast-speed system:
A new command line key will be added: -FASTRUN.this will enable a frame-skip system, which will allow in critical situation (like 3 frames per second), to skip some frames.
=========================
New stolen tech system:
new-stolen-lab-logic will have more priority that usual logic.
More armors.
Via [ArmorTypes] section and EVerses= tag on warheads.
Will be supported ONLY limited number of items.I still don't define this number.
Possible, this will allow only 50 items (including original ones)
UseRockPatch=yes tag.
In my opinion, mods for RP must not run in anyway on original YR. Not like this: you install mod and have a lot of errors, mistakes, because RP isn't installed.
No, you must have error at start up.
So I want to find tag/value for it, which cause IE at startup (in original YR).
Mods must use stringtableXX.csf or strtbl*.csf files.
pd, alliedgeneral and others suddenly came here crazy with the release of CE and brought havoc.

CE had very few bugs as a patch and almost every complain had to do with bad documentation and installer problems. And all those got fixed in another super-fast release of a revision. And yet noone said sorry or thanked CnCVK.

You all do, like CnCVK is paid to develop RP. I haven't seen that fanatic and immature complains against E.A. all those years, yet I see them now against a person who is doing (or actually "working" in the last weeks) for the community itself.

Whether CnCVK is doing good or bad, you can't speak to him like that. It's immature. I have participated in other game modding communities and I have never seen such fanatic responses against someone that is doing something for the community. And the worst of all, some of you still don't seem to understand that he is just bad at english.

Personally I am just happy with the way CnCVK works.
However if pd (or any of his supporters) is not, well pd if you have time, you can get the current code of cncvk (or 1.07b one if you don't trust/like any of his work) and let's have 2 separate patch developments. I don't think anyone should had problem with that (we will also have competition). However if you don't have time, I am sorry and I wish you good luck on any of your other projects or school.

To be clear, I appreciate both the work of pd and cncvk and I want to express a big thanks to both for expanding the YR modding community.

So there's finally a new RockPatch version out. Cool.
I didn't try it yet (I use TFD and got no clue whether that is fixed already or not), but it seems obvious when looking at through the recent posts in this forum: RPCE is celebrating with more bugs and destroyed features than new stuff that actually works fine.
Heck, with RPCE installed, the game isn't even compatible to itself.
I never experienced a greater confusion after an RP release, and this is definitely caused by tag name changes and other evil stuff that are mostly pointless.

Let me quote a few things.
Most of them are questions that have been answered already, but I'd like to comment on them anyway.
With "you" I'll be addressing CnCVK.

Confusion

MadHQ Wrote:Ok so what do we install this too? 1.08SE... or 1.08SE with revision .0035... or what...
Good point. After introducing that weird revision system, someone should have mentionned what the hell to do with the patch exe. Given that the patcher doesn't even work correctly (see below), this confuses people already before they actually downloaded the patch. Great.

Pointless name changes, typos in the offline help

RPCE features list Wrote:Third campaign TUT1 -> THD1 now
This is probably one of the most pointless name changes ever. The only thing I thought when I saw that in the features list was: WHY???
Come on, there is no reason in hell for that change. Only thing it does is make life harder for those who added a third campaign. Oh, and it raises the confusion level.

The worst thing is, that offline help appeared to have changed tag names mistyped so it didn't help at all. CnCVK, is possible you're too confused yourself so you mistype your new tags?

Why have an offline help anyway? What did Ren, D and me compile those ModEnc pages for? I abolished offline help files because they're hard to keep up to date. For exactly that reason above (typos, other mistakes).

BobingAbout Wrote:its all in the help, although it doesn't explain it too well
And then it doesn't even have quality...

Patcher?

Marshall Wrote:Yes, manually delete expandmd02.mix
Ah right, the non-removal of expandmd02.mix. If it doesn't remove that file automatically, why have an installer at all? Isn't this the job of an installer, to do things automatically?
This sort of thing could have been discussed before, if VK just didn't keep this version a secret.

The First Decade
It's cool to see a new RP version out which I (let me remind you that I was the one starting this project) can't even install.

Marshall Wrote:Yes, early versions of the RPCE installer do not work on The First Decade. A fixed version is with CnCVK and will hopefully be uploaded soon.
WTF?
Why does 1.08SE work on The First Decade and CE not? I see no point here.
I don't even know whether this has been fixed already. There's too many complaints around here, you can't really keep track of what's fixed and what's not. This really sucks.

Warhead=Nuke

Since new SW system, you MUST NOT use Warhead=Nuke.[/quote Wrote:What the ztyping hell is up?
This very "feature" makes the game incompatible to itself, since the nuke reactor's DeathAnim uses that warhead itself.
And what the hell and especially WHY did you change to the nuke warhead? I really want an detailed explanation on that.

[quote="However, I not recommend to use nuke clones in mods too :("
So RPCE removes the Nuke clone feature?
Nuke clones worked fine afaik. I don't know why you're messing with them. Why don't you just leave them alone? You're not improving it - like you like to say - you're destroying it.

LightningStorms
Another interesting case.

TheMan Wrote:I had same problem as you, its not your codes its a CE bug. I think this will be fixed in next rivision
Great. Let's all wait till the next revision comes out and confuses us even more.
Seriously.
Again, this can be categorized under "stupid, pointless tag name changings". LStorm instead of LS. The only thing this does is making modders angry.
Then it seems whatever you did doesn't even work. So you destroyed LS clones, too, awesome.

-------------------------
I'm running out of quotes at the moment.
But well, that should be enough - for now.

My conclusion is that RPCE isn't progressing the RockPatch development, it's more like the beginning of the end of the patch.
Seriously, this version's DL link should be removed from the site and we should go back use 1.08SE.

CnCVK, you should really explain several things, and please, explain them, don't come with things like "it's better" or "it will be great" or whatever. Cause frankly, that seems to be lies.

After that, we should discuss how this version could be fixed. I have only little hope since a lot of stoff is pretty much fucked up now.

RPCE features list Wrote:Third campaign TUT1 -> THD1 now
This is probably one of the most pointless name changes ever.

Warhead=Nuke

Although this will likely turn into a contentious issue, let me explain why I personally would like this particular 'feature' hacked out. I use linux quite a bit and if I want to play around with YR I'd like to not have to reboot into windows all the time. The game will run correctly using wine, but it suffers from all the units blowing up no matter how you install it under linux. The recommended way round it is to install a no-cd crack that stops all units blowing up 30 seconds into a mission and that is all well and good, but then I can't use and/or test the rock patch. Rather than calling it 'removing copy protection features', lets call it 'improving linux compatibility'

I just spent some time at the Bugtracker, and aside from updating/requesting to update a bunch of issues, I also did some configuration changes:

All issue-related pages show the "advanced page" by default now

I added a dozen platform/os-version profiles, so normal users should quickly be able to select their platform config now (might help track down OS-related problems)

I added Revisions #0029, #0033 and #0035 as RockPatch versions, so they can be selected as Product Versions and for Fixed in Version

I added a category "Reconnection Errors"

The Tracker now allows normal Reporters to re-open tickets, e.g. when a supposedly fixed issue isn't

And, last but not least, I tweaked the workflow transitions - took out some demotions², and issues cannot be closed right away anymore...they have to be "resolved" first.

If there's any trouble, just reply and bitch.

Oh, and before I forget it: Due to the updating/reopening of issues, some older (much older) issues are currently higher on top than "current" issues, which might be confusing at first - nevertheless, fixing the old issues (or confirming they are fixed) is even more important than fixing the fresh bugs. If they're all fixed anyway and were just badly updated before, they'll soon be gone anyway - if not, good that I re-opened them!

my antivirus insists getlang.exe is a threat.

for those who don't know, getlang.exe is extracted and executed when you try to patch gamemd.exe with rockpatch. my antivirus automaticly renames this file to getlang_exe.vir, and prevernts it from running.

i tried to set up an exception, but, i can't, it only allows exceptions to known virus's(which i think is kinda crap).

is there anything else you can use?

its nothing critical, the patcher just decides to patch the game in "american" when getlang fails, its just a little annoying.
