As I had promised a while ago... I finally posted several large tables of data at ModEnc, describing what objects load what flags from the INI files. It contains most of the objects already, and I plan to add the remaining ones in due time. There are a few issues to iron out, but I hope this will help people already.

So, well...someone smart recently said:

Quote:A failure establishes only this: That our determination to succeed was not strong enough.

Whatever you blame it on, I've stopped re-skinning ModEnc and returned to good old monobook. Fact is, the skin was half-done for months and I couldn't be arsed to finish it, and fact is, not many people liked it anyway. So, I had three choices:

Finish the re-design and force it upon people, even though it's universally hated.

Do nothing, leading to other people thinking it sucks because of the concept as a whole and me thinking it sucks because it's unfinished.

Revert to monobook, transfer the newer styles, and finally unify and update the old styling, leading to the page looking good, everybody liking it and so on, at the price of looking like any other MediaWiki wiki.

Looking at it, you'll see that it was not much of a choice. It's sad I didn't manage to give us our own identity, but there's no use for a Modding Encyclopedia no one uses. At least the instant familiarity with the page design will help people contribute.

So, reverse last announcement on this topic: Skin ModEnc is hereby discontinued and will not be updated anymore. Whoever is currently set to ModEnc is advised to go to his preferences → skins and switch to "Monobook" - the one having "(default)" behind it.
Template styles should mostly fit, only flag's graphics and the logo look a little weird. But hey, what do I have weekend for?

Sorry for any inconvenience caused, but I think this is the best course of action.

I just updated the general flag header to fit the new design and pimp it a little. Part of this design was to turn the list of games supported by this flag into a graphical bar. Unfortunately, this means 99% of all flags are currently missing game information. If you come across a flag that highlights no game it can be used in, please edit the page and fix the flag template.

Help can be found here, but it's basically nothing but adding codes like ra2=yes, yr=yes, rp=yes etc. for games that are supported, and then removing the old games= line.

Also note that special= and default= can be omitted now if there is no value. Once everything is updated, there will be no more distinction between "None" and "none" necessary. (All other parameters got default values as well, values= outputs an error if it isn't set.)

Hope you like the new template. Oh, and have a look at the new ModBar as well (live example from UMP page).

Maybe you've wondered why that weird black-backgrounded logo sat totally unintegrated on ModEnc for the past few weeks. The reason is simple: I needed it to make a new skin

I just turned it to default, so guests should see the new design already. Registered users may have to go to their preferences and change skin to "modenc".

While you are of course free to use whatever skin you like, I advise you that I'll re-design the news, templates, tables etc. to fit the "modenc" style. They'll all be "css-able" for monobook as well, but somebody else would have to do that, if he can't live without the old skin.

From the above you can deduct that I'm not entirely done yet, as said, news, templates, tables and some details are still wrongly styled, but the skin is generally usable, and a dozen users see problems quicker than one.

Note that I'm going to rewrite some templates, so don't be surprised if things go crazy for short periods. Also prepare for some reorganizations...I'm particularly unhappy with the way the RockPatch pages are currently organized...a lot of information is misplaced, redundant or just plain ugly. And the OS and ETS namespaces are mostly empty -_-

And behold the beautified new/minor/unpatrolled icons

Welcome to a horrible example of how you shouldn't edit ModEnc.

For those who don't frequent the Recent Changes, there recently was a user who managed to do the following:
He saved 22 revisions spread over 5 wishlist pages, to add a total amount of 13 lines. Not only does this mean he almost saved two pages for every one line he added, nooo, actually, that's not even necessary. Had he simply edited the page as he wanted it to be and saved, he'd only have to have edited each page once - resulting in five saved revisions, one for each page.
He also managed to put his nickname behind every single one of the lines he added, despite the fact that this behavior is clearly deprecated in the styleguide.
He took the time in between wishing to move around other people's wishes and comment on them (directly on the wishlist).
...and in the end, he usually started off each page by saving his wish on top of the list, correcting it in one of his later revisions.

His personal Toplist is as follows:

Wishlist/Page 2 (7 Revisions)

Wishlist/Page 4 (5 Revisions)

Wishlist/Page 6 (4 Revisions)

Wishlist and Wishlist/Page 5 (both 3 Revisions)

Those of you who don't understand the problem with this have just auto-signed up for a mandatory reading of ModEnc:Styleguide#Preview; all others, please assume a fetal position and wait for Maid Tanya to clean up your remains.

Just updated ModEnc to the latest version, sorry if anyone experiences hickups.

Important changes:
I have created three new namespaces, RockPatch, RockPatchDocs and Factions, all will have their main pages at RockPatch:Main, RockPatch Docs:Main and Factions:Main, respectively.

Update: In the process of bringing the internal links in order, I got rid of both the very old YR_1001pd-pages as well as the old RockPatch/ and RockPatch_Docs/ pages.

All internal links are fine, just external, pointing-to-modenc ones need to be updated. In most cases, this is just a question of replacing the mid-page slash by a colon.

Once more, clearly: All old ModEnc-RockPatch links, except for /RockPatch itself, are now outdated.

The ModEnc Administration Team is pleased to announce that, in our ongoing effort to turn ModEnc into a complete reference on C&C at large, and RA2 and Yuri's Revenge in particular, and in order to make it easier for us and our users to reach that goal, we recently decided to temporarily include DeeZire's INI Editing Guide in it's entirety. As of now, you can look up all flags that are described in The Guide on ModEnc as well. They shall stay seperated from the other pages as long as they weren't converted into real, original ModEnc pages, but they are there nevertheless.

On a totally independent note, we have a whole lot of pages that need to be rewritten, and are happy about every helping hand.
