IEs more likely with my patch applied?
#1
Hey there!

I was just test-playing a new map I made.
Well the test-playing turned into a survival test with my base containing a weather controller, a chronosphere, a spysat uplink and two power plants, and a tech airport. Everything else has been destroyed, but nevertheless I was about to win with weather storms and paratroopers...
Then suddenly: internal error.
Reason unknown.
I do not use any features of my patch (except the log file, which works great), just got the patch applied.

And, I'm not quite sure, but it seems that IEs are more likely to occur with my patch.
I don't know what your experiences are, that's why I start this poll.
Please only vote for yes or no if you're sure at least 90% about it.

I do NOT mean IEs caused by possible mistakes you made using features of my patch, but IEs which suddenly occur while playing the game when everything seemed to be alright.

Thanks everyone.

Well, I will not vote yet, since I'm not sure, but I've had one + one strange IEs yesterday. One + One because I was playing on XWIS, and one time I got the IE, the other time my human ally. Anyway, point is, although we did play with an early alpha of TD:SE, I didn't do much yet. I put in the mobile crate, but it's tested and works in both mods, plus it wasn't actually in use. The other changes are just generic ones, like IQ-settings, cheer rate, self-detonating of ivan-bombs...and nothing weird happened either. Totally normal battles with standard YR-units...

Anyway, I've made sure crackone saves his except.txt (he'll post it after me), and mine is attached. I don't know if it helps you, to me the error sounds pretty..."unspecific"....

Hm both your errors occured at the same place, playing an animation.
You're not the only ones who got that error... I dunno who but I know somebody got the same.

Possibly (possibly) infantry death...
Hm... the question is why they should cause an error.
As long as you don't use any of my InfDeaths, the game should run like normal...
And the strangest thing is that I never got that error...

Questions:
Have viruses been active?
Genetic mutator?

Genetic Mutators no.
Viruses probably, thing is, we played several games, so I'm not sure which countries exactly we played, but if there was any kind of Yuri-tech-access, there was always heavy Virus-usage.

The only way I've used your additional code is by enabling Yuri's UI. Everything else was normal modding.

I haven't run into anything yet, unmodded and modded to the hilt. The only errors I get are from my own carelessness.
I'm what Willis was talkin' about.

only unexplained IEs I've had were during network games. nothing else seems to be to be different.

With the patch, I have seen at least twice the ELECTRO death ocurring at the same time as an IE but only on one of the 2 human players' computers.

Given that InfDeath 5 is hardcoded to be ELECTRO, I wouldn't be surprised if the problem is related to the changes to the InfDeath system.

Occasionally while playing, the new InfDeath animations do not play at all.

The problems happen infrequently.

IDEA!!!!!!!

If a mutation death does not have a MakeInfantry=X line on the anim then you can get all of the errors I described above!!!

Is it possible that ELECTRO is being treated as a mutation death?

I'd bet money that the problem lies with ELECTRO.
Ever wondered what the hell is going on?
Believe me friend you're not the only one.

Marshall, you have PERFECTLY recognized the mistake!

Going through my code assuming InfDeath=5 ends in a mutation.
A small mistake by me with bad effect...

It's no true problem to fix it.
Thanks very much!! Smile

I'm planning to release a kinda 1.035 version which fixes that.
It will also write the log file already.
BTW, I implemented two custom log messages:
[pd] LoadSpecialYuriUI=0/1
and
[pd] Killing infantry (InfDeath=%d)

I think both are quite senseful
I'm going to correct the InfDeaths problem now Wink

EDIT:
Should be fixed now.

I am, too!

And:
ALL the InfDeaths below 9 turned into mutations, so that mistake could also be the reason for Renegade's & crackone's IE, as well as for mine (I described above)!

It could be the reason for this thread!! Big Grin

The mysterious IEs continue...
2 games - 2 crashes.
The last actions logged - before the errors occured - differ.
No infantry deaths though.

I wonder wtf screws the game up like that

First of all, are you running unmodded?
If so, then are you sure that it's not just the "neutral mcv" IE?

Where in code is the error ocurring?

I runned it with RTB (my mod).
Wanted to play a whole game with my new colors.

I dunno the "neutral mcv" IE...

And well, one time it occured when clicked on the TechCenter cameo to build it, the other time just sometime in the middle of the game.
